Srinagar- The Indian Nursing Council (INC) has approved relocation of the affected Kashmiri students to the institutions affiliated with Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) after taking serious note of the alleged admissions fraud and subsequent assault on female students at Desh Bhagat University (DBU) in Punjab last month.
Following allegations of misconduct and the unwarranted enrollment of Kashmiri students in an unapproved institution, INC, an independent national regulating body for nursing education in India, has also petitioned the Punjab government to revoke the BDU’s registration.
Official sources informed Kashmir Observer that nursing students from DBU Amloh district in Punjab will be relocated to the colleges affiliated with BFUHS in Punjab. BFUHS has over 200 affiliated colleges with available vacancies.
Sources said the INC decision to relocate affected Kashmiri students comes nearly a month after dozens of students including females, who were protesting against their unauthorized transfer to an unapproved college, located within DBU campus were roughed-up by the varsity staff.
Taking cognizance of the issue, the Punjab government filed a criminal case against DBU administrators including its Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor for jeopardizing the future of Kashmiri students.
Besides filing a criminal case against the administrators of DBU for cheating innocent students, the Punjab government also directed them to pay rupees 10 lakh as compensation to each affected student.
It is important to mention that the majority of students who were clandestinely enrolled in Sardar Lal Singh College were from Kashmir.
Sources said the Punjab CM has assigned the job of relocating students to the authorized colleges to Deputy Commissioner (DC) Fatehgarh Sahib, Parneet Shergill and that the process will not be based on merit, following allegations of malpractices and unauthorized admissions by DBU.
A senior official at DC Office Fatehgarh Sahib said that a list of suitable colleges will be shared with DC concerned within a week’s time and that all nursing students as per the instructions from INC and the Punjab government will be relocated to the BFUHS affiliated colleges.
