New Delhi- In a significant move, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has imposed a ban on the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP), a political outfit led by separatist leader Shabir Ahmad Shah.
The ban has been executed under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and is grounded in allegations of anti-India and pro-Pakistan activities associated with the party, which are perceived as a direct threat to India’s national security, an official spokesperson said.
He said that this decisive action by the MHA underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding the integrity and security of the nation.
“The ban on JKDFP serves as a measure to curb activities deemed detrimental to India’s sovereignty and to maintain peace and stability in the Jammu and Kashmir region” he said.
Shabir Ahmad Shah, the prominent leader of JKDFP, has been known for his separatist stance and alleged involvement in activities that have been at odds with the national interests of India.
The imposition of the ban on the party, the spokesperson said, is intended to prevent the propagation of ideologies and actions that could potentially disrupt the harmony and security of the region.
He said this development follows a series of measures undertaken by the government to address security concerns in the region, with a focus on curbing elements that pose a threat to national unity and stability.
“The ban on JKDFP underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to addressing challenges in Jammu and Kashmir and promoting peace and development in the region” the spokesperson added.
