ANANTNAG– Baramulla defeated Kupwara in the finals of Under-19 Inter District Provincial Level Cricket Tournament, organised by Department of Youth Services & Sports across different venues in Anantnag.
Batting first, Kupwara put up a paltry total of 69 runs, with Baramulla’s Musaib Mehraj taking 3 wickets and Tanveer Lateef picking 2. Chasing the target, Baramulla won by 5 wickets, as Sahil Youusf scored 39 (20). Musaib Mehraj won the man of the match award.
With this, the Provincial Level Cricket Tournament came to a close. The tournament lasted 13 days with 69 matches played across Under-14, Under-17 and Under-19 age groups. All matches were played on turf wickets at four venues in district Anantnag.
The tournament was hosted by DYSS Anantnag, providing residential facilities for all officials and student-athletes, along with a mess for which appropriate arrangements were put in place in advance.
In the Under-14 tourney, Bandipora and Pulwama played in the final. Pulwama elected to field first and restricted Bandipora to 127. Abrar Ahmad scored 41 runs for Bandipora, while Shabir Irshad and Burhan Ashraf claimed 3 wickets each for Pulwama. Chasing this target, Pulwama’s Burhan 30 (30) and Younus 32 (21) steadied the ship as Bandipora’s Abrar took 4 wickets. Pulwama won the match by 2 wickets. Burhan won the man of the match award. Sahil Bilal was declared man of the series.
In the final match of the Under-17 competition, Kulgam locked horns with Baramulla and in a thrilling last-over encounter, Baramulla beat Kulgam. Faizan Ibhrahim from Baramulla was declared man of the series.
