Srinagar- For the first time after Ladakh was split from Jammu and Kashmir, the National Conference will hold a major public rally in Kargil on Saturday ahead of Hill Development Council polls.
The 5th general Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) elections are scheduled on October 4. A total of 85 candidates are in the poll fray.
Former Chief Minister and National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah is scheduled to address a public rally in Kargil and according to one NC leader all the preparations for Abdullah’s mega rally have been completed.
He said a preparatory meeting was held today at the venue and all the arrangements required were ensured.
Leaders of both NC and the Congress will take part in the event. “Top leadership of both the alliance parties will take part in the event. His address to the gathering is very crucial given the importance of Hill Council in the region,” the NC leader said.
The event, according to NC leaders, will be held at Choo Stadium Bemathang in Kargil.
Abdullah will be accompanied by some senior leaders of the party as well, they said.
Earlier, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on his visit to Ladakh addressed a mega public gathering at the same stadium apart from attending youth interaction events.
After the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, Abdullah visited the region on multiple occasions and addressed the party workers.
