Jammu- A Sarpanch was arrested on Thursday for allegedly shooting dead his wife in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Sarpanch identified as Yashpal of Patrara village was arrested by police after receiving information that he fired upon his wife Neelam Devi during the intervening night of September 13-14, reports said. Yashpal, who was also a Village Defense Committee (VDC) member, fired upon his wife with 303 Rifle leaving her critically injured.
The woman was shifted to Sub District Hospital Sunderbani by her other family members. However, the doctors there referred her to GMC Jammu for further treatment.
However, she succumbed to her injuries at the GMC Jammu.
According to reports, police have added offence under Section 302 IPC (murder) in the instant case which was earlier registered.
Meanwhile, the body of deceased has been handed over to her legal heirs after completing all legal formalities.
