Srinagar- Police on Tuesday arrested a man on the charges of allegedly sodomising a minor boy at Malik Angan area of Safakadal in the old city and threatening him of dire consequences in case he disclosed the shameful act to anyone.
A police official told Kashmir Observer that a 9-years old boy was molested and sodomised by a cleric of a local mosque at Malik Angan locality in Safakadal.
He identified the accused cleric as Waseem Raja son of Ali Mohammad Malla of Noorbagh area in Srinagar. The accused, he said, was leading prayers at a local mosque in Safakadal.
A formal case FIR No. 30 of 2023 under IPC sections 377 and 5,6 POSCO Act was registered at Maharaj Gunj police station in this regard and investigation was set into motion.
Confirming the incident, Srinagar police on X said “One Waseem Raja S/o Ali Mohd Malla R/o Noorbagh presently working as Imam at Masjid Aisha Malikaagun arrested for committing unnatural sexual offence on a 09 years [old] child.”
Meanwhile two youth were arrested by the police for attacking and injuring a teenager at Government Polytechnic for Women in Bemina area of Srinagar on Tuesday.
A 19-years old teenager from Sopore was hospitalized after being attacked by two youth with a sharp edged weapon at the college premises here this afternoon, a police official said.
Identified as Mehran Ahmad son of Parvaiz Ahmad Khuroo of Sopore town in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, the student, police said, suffered injuries in his head, chest and lower back portion of the body in the attack.
The incident took place following an altercation between him and the accused in the college premises. The accused duo, police said in a fit of rage stabbed the victim multiple times, leaving him critically injured.
The official said the injured was immediately evacuated to the SKIMS Medical College Bemina for treatment and is said to be stable. The accused duo, he said, was arrested barely an hour after carrying out the attack.
The accused have been identified as Abrar Shabir son of Shabir Ahmad Dar of Chadoora area in central Budgam and Rahil Ali son of Ali Mohammad Pahloo of Dalgate Srinagar.
A formal case FIR no 89 of 2023 under IPC sections 307 has been registered at police station Bemina in this regard and investigation set into motion. Srinagar police while confirming the assault on a teenager from Sopore town said, both the accused have been arrested in connection with the stabbing case.
“Two (2) accused namely Abrar Shabir S/o Shabir Ahmad Dar R/o Chadoora and Rahil Ali S/o Ali Mohammad Pahloo R/o Dalgate Srinagar arrested for assaulting/injuring a polytechnic student with a sharp edged weapon. FIR no 89/2023 registered in Bemina PS. Weapon of offense also recovered, “police said on X.
