SRINAGAR- The J&K Sports Council has organised a series of sports activities during the past week to commemorate the celebration of National Sports Day, which began on the 22nd of this month.
JKSC celebrated the National Sports Day on Tuesday and paid tribute to hockey legend, Major Dhyan Chand. The colourful functions were held at TRC Football Turf Srinagar and other district centres.
Director of Planning, YSS and Higher Education, Ashu Gupta, presided over the function as chief guest, while Dr. Zaffar Iqbal, Chief Accounts Officer, and Muzaffar Hussain Wani, Divisional Sports Officer, were the guests of honour on the occasion.
While addressing the gathering chief guest said the department has played a pivotal role in taking sports to the nook and corner of J&K.
Referring to the wheelchair Basketball player Insha, the chief guest said that she is a great inspiration.
Divisional Sports Officer, Muzaffar Husain Wani, while addressing the participants said that several events were organized across the Kashmir division and elsewhere in Jammu to pay glowing tribute to the legend and the “wizard” of Indian Hockey, Major Dhyan Chand.
Many players were present on the occasion to receive their appreciation certificates from the chief guest for bringing laurels to J&K.
Meanwhile, a Yogasana sports championship was held at Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex, Srinagar, for sub-junior, junior and senior categories. Toiba Nazir and Bilal Ahmed Dar were declared the best Yogasana athletes in their respective female and male categories.
The National Sports Day functions in other district centres were in progress.
