Srinagar- The High Court of J&K and Ladakh on Tuesday asked the government “not to disturb” the present position of at least 26 employees of Psychiatric Disease Hospital here.
A Single Bench of Justice Sanjay Dhar passed the orders after hearing a petition by petitioners, contending that they have been engaged as Data Entry Operators and Multi-Purpose Workers in the Psychiatric Disease Hospital, Srinagar, under the Scheme of NMH and have been discharging their duties for the past several years.
The petitioners submitted that as per the terms of engagement, they are entitled to continue till the operation of the scheme which is coming to an end only in 2026. Therefore, they said, their services cannot be disengaged.
While issuing notice to government for response to the plea within a week’s time, the court said: “In the meanwhile, subject to the objections from the other side and till next date of hearing before the Bench, the present position of the petitioners shall not be disturbed.”
The government Psychiatric Diseases Hospital recently called a meeting to discuss the fallout of the cessation of services of 26 personnel engaged under National Mental Health Program from 1st September.
The government recently termed as misleading the reports in a section of the media that de-addiction services provided by the Govt. Psychiatric Diseases Hospital, (IMHANS-K) Srinagar have been stopped.
“It is for information that there will be no interruption of services at any facility and IPD, OPD and all other services at Govt,” Medical Superintendent Psychiatric Disease Hospital (IMHANS-K) has said in a press release.
The Psychiatric Diseases Hospital, Kathi Darwaza, Rainawari as well as the Community General Hospital Unit located in SMHS complex will continue as per normal routine, he had said.
