Srinagar- All 21 Kashmiri students, who were detained after a violent scuffle inside Mewar University in Rajasthan, have been released by police, officials said on Monday.
At least 36 students, including 21 from Kashmir were detained after fierce clashes broke out between two groups of students at the Chittorgarh’s Mewar University on Friday last during the queuing for food at the mess.
Dr Alok Mishra, Vice-Chancellor of Mewar University told Kashmir Observer over phone that all the students have been released with the warning that no such incident having potential to create communal disharmony will be tolerated in the future.
Mishra said all 36 students including 21 from Kashmir have been released while action as per law shall be initiated against the outsiders who had joined local students during clashes.
He said the situation has normalized and that the students attend classes as per routine.
“No one will be spared; I would like to reiterate that any action that brings disrepute to the Mewar University will not be tolerated. I had a meeting with both sides of the students and advised them to concentrate on studies other than indulging in hooliganism,” the VC said.
Pertinently, the scuffle, according to officials, ensued after a local student entered into a heated argument with a few Kashmiri students during the dinner at the hostel mess on Friday evening
The students, they said later pelted stones at each other, leading to injuries to three students including one from Kashmir, who were admitted to the local district hospital.
A police team from Gangrar police station led by Superintendent of Police (SP) Chittorgarh, Rajan Dushyant had rushed to the spot and bundled around 36 students and later detained them at the concerned police station.
A group of Kashmiri students told Kashmir Observer over phone that the situation turned ugly after members of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), and Bajrang Dal allegedly barged inside the campus amid provocative sloganeering and attacked Kashmiri students.
“It were local students who joined with right wing Hindu activists chanted slogans first and pelted stones at us. After coming under attack, we also chanted slogans to grab the attention of the varsity administration,” the students added.
Meanwhile Nasir Khuehami, National Convener of J&K Students Association (JKSA) has thanked senior Congress leader, Sachin Pilot and DG Police Rajasthan Umesh Mishra for their intervention to get all Kashmiri students released.
He said the prompt response of Pilot and Mishra has restored faith in justice and ensured an environment of inclusivity and harmony.
“All Twenty-Five students who were detained by the Rajasthan Police were released today after the J&K Students Association took up Matter with Former Deputy Chief Minister and MLA Sachin Pilot and DGP Rajasthan Umesh Mishra,” Khuehami said in a statement.
