SRINAGAR: With a blend of unwavering determination and exceptional skill, Emaan Majid, a US-born Kashmiri living in Los Angeles, has risen to prominence on the global stage. Emaan showcased her mastery in Taekwondo and made her Kashmiri roots swell with pride as the youngest Kashmiri-American to win the US Taekwondo National Championship.
Emaan attends Victory Taekwondo USA in Hacienda Heights, California. Dedicating herself to the sport, honing her skills and pushing every limit, Emaan has been practising Taekwondo since she was five.
Emaan Majid started Taekwondo as an after-school activity, which would help her with self-defence and confidence. However, she fell in love with the sport and turned it into her passion. She added that she is grateful to her trainers and her family for supporting her and that her goal is to represent Kashmir and the US in the Olympics.
Just this month, Emaan participated in the USA-TKD National Championship held in Jacksonville, Florida, emerging triumphant in her category and securing the National Championship title. As the recognised national governing body for the US Olympic Committee and the hub of the official
US National Teams, USA-TKD holds numerous events throughout the year to foster competitive excellence.
In addition to the local tournaments in and around Los Angeles, Emaan has ventured to various cities and states in the past to compete. In May 2023, she travelled to Portland, Oregon, where she took part in the USATKD West Grand Prix. This event held qualifying significance for the 2023 USA. National Taekwondo Championships. Emaan’s remarkable performance saw her stand atop the podium with the Gold medal, solidifying her position in the upcoming US Nationals.
In July 2023, Emaan marked another significant milestone in her Taekwondo journey by participating in the USA-TKD National Championship hosted in Jacksonville, Florida. Demonstrating remarkable prowess and determination, she secured a Gold Medal in her category, proudly earning the title of a 10-
year-old National Champion.
Emaan’s accomplishments in Taekwondo have extended to a range of locations across the United States, encompassing Reno, Nevada, Salt Lake City, Utah and Charlotte, North Carolina.
Notably, her dedication and outstanding abilities garnered substantial recognition in 2022, when she secured the No. 1 national ranking in her belt and division, affirming her position as a distinguished athlete on the national stage.
Wearing a coveted Black Belt, Emaan Majid stands as a pivotal member of her Taekwondo studio’s world-class team. This select group undergoes a rigorous training regimen and top-tier coaching, fostering an environment geared towards personal growth and attaining excellence as accomplished athletes.
Guiding Emaan from the outset of her Taekwondo journey, Master Bobby Cazares remarked, “Emaan is an exceptional athlete and an even better person. She is an example of a true martial artist who demonstrates discipline, respect, self-control and confidence. She realises that success comes from hard work and perseverance. Emaan has a bright future ahead of her.”
