- Says Some People Are Still Trying To Reverse Normalcy In J&K
- ‘Our Goal Is To Ensure A Feeling Of Safety, Security And Happiness In Society’
Kupwara- Reiterating that development is possible only in the conditions of peace and stability, the Union Territory Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said on Friday that his administration’s clear policy is not sparing the guilty and not touching the innocent.
“Our goal is to ensure a feeling of safety, security and happiness in society. We’ll ensure expectations of people are fulfilled and all sections work shoulder to shoulder to build a new J&K,” Sinha said.
He made these remarks after inaugurating sports and various development projects in the Handwara area here in this North Kashmir district.
“Development is possible only in the conditions of peace and stability. We have a clear policy of not sparing the guilty and not touching the innocent. On the path of peace and progress, it is our collective responsibility to ensure all the citizens lead a life of prosperity and dignity,” he said.
“Police and other security forces won’t have their hands on innocent people. My doors are always for those coming with genuine demands,” he added.
Reiterating the commitment of his government towards the welfare and empowerment of all sections of the society, the LG said the administration is not only ensuring economic development but also delivering social justice by providing land to landless population, including tribal communities.
He also highlighted the unprecedented progress achieved in various sectors and its impact in the lives of all.
“Infrastructure development is progressing at a rapid pace and the common man is the main stakeholder of development processes. We have promoted Border tourism to link the far-flung areas with the mainstream of development,” he said.
Asserting that his government is working for all and not for a select few, the LG assured that the genuine issues and demands of the people will be addressed on priority.
He said the Government of India had started the initial process on the railway line for Kupwara. He further assured that the road from Lolab to Bandipora will be sanctioned soon.
“There will be no shortage of funding for completion of Government Medical College,” he added.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the event, the LG said that street violence, bandh calls like the situation have come to an end now. “Some people are still trying to reverse the normalcy,” he said.
About the issue of land to landless poor, the LG said that no outsider is being settled here in J&K.
“Five (5) marla land being given to poor and those landless people. We aim to make things good and conducive for the poor across the region without any partiality,” he said.
“We will realise their dreams of having a house. Agricultural land safeguard is there already and no outsider can buy it. Industries should come up and investment must come to Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.
Taking a dig at his adversaries for raising unemployment issues, the LG said that people have already been given jobs and in the last couple of years about 30,000 people were recruited in different departments.
He said that the time has gone when some people used to provide jobs on their will. “New era has already started. Nothing like the past practice will be tolerated. There will be complete transparency in everything. Impossible word has been removed from the dictionary of Jammu and Kashmir. The region is now heading towards new development and there is peace,” he said.
“G-20 like major successful events in which 27 countries were witness to the change in Jammu and Kashmir. Many countries have already reversed their travel advisories. This year till July over 1.27 crore tourists have already visited here. We are expecting this figure to cross more than 2.15 crore visitors by the end of this year,” he added.
The LG also spoke about the changes taking place in terms of tourism, sports and other sectors in J&K in general and Kupwara in particular.
“Kupwara is moving ahead on the path of peace and prosperity. The district has played a major role in strengthening democracy. The public representatives and the people of Kupwara are giving new direction to Jammu Kashmir,” he said, adding that the UT administration is giving due attention to the border tourism of Kupwara district.
Earlier, Sinha dedicated the multi-purpose Indoor Sports Hall to the youth of Kupwara.
The Sports Hall worth Rs 4 crore, he said, is equipped with best-in-class facilities, will nurture the sporting talent of local youth and optimise their development.
“Such facilities to the youth will also make a significant contribution in strengthening our resolve of “Har Din Khel, Sabke Liye Khel,” he added.
Sinha also acknowledged the contribution of the sportspersons in making J&K an emerging Power House of sports.
“For a long time access to facilities, avenues for career progression and opportunity to perform were missing for sportspersons. We are investing more than ever before to create a support system and empower them to reach their potential and enjoy security in their non-sporting lives,” he said.
“200 identified outstanding sportspersons who had brought laurels to the country and the UT at national and international events will be handed over appointment letters of government jobs soon,” he added.
At the inaugural ceremony, the LG shared the growth journey of the Kupwara district and the efforts of the government to establish peace and to bring prosperity in the lives of the people.
The sports and other development projects inaugurated today are the testimony to our commitment to fulfilling the aspirations of the people of the district, he said.
During his visit, the LG inaugurated various development projects worth Rs 32 crore including development of sports complex at Bangus; augmentation of Grid Substations Villgam and Arampora; construction of Earth Science Block at Government Degree College Sogam, Kupwara; Three-story frame structure building at GHSS Handwara; construction of Kalaroose Lastiyal Khul at Lolab.
