Srinagar- An army man, who was recovered seven days after he reportedly went missing from his native Ashtal village in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, is likely to reunite with his family soon.
Rifleman Javed Ahmad Wani, belonging to the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry regiment, was recovered by the police on Thursday, seven days after he went missing from his home in Ashtal village of Kulgam district on July 29 under mysterious circumstances.
The army personal in his late 20’s, was scheduled to fly back to Ladakh to resume his duties, the day before his mysterious disappearance occurred a short distance from his home. Ahmad was posted at Galwan area of Leh and had arrived home on Eid-ul-Azha.
Sources in the police department told Kashmir Observer that many suspects were rounded-up for questioning, after the security forces launched an extensive manhunt in three districts of south Kashmir including Anantnag, Kulgam and Shopian.
One of the suspects, sources said during sustained interrogation revealed the exact location from where the army man had gone missing on July 29. They said all three districts were put on high alert as soon as the family of the army personal filed a missing complaint.
Javed’s family members had also appealed to the general public to help them trace their missing son and had urged those who might have abducted him to release him alive on humanitarian basis.
“I appeal to all the brothers to let him go alive. If he has troubled anyone, I apologize for that. If they want I will get him to quit his job as well,” Javed’s father, Mohammad Yaqub Wani, told reporters earlier.
Without divulging details under what circumstances, Javed went missing, sources said he will be back home shortly, adding the investigation is on and that further disclosure at this point in time may hamper the probe.
When contacted, Public Relation Officer (PRO) 15 Core, Lieutenant MK Sahu said investigations will reveal the reasons behind the soldier’s sudden disappearance.
“Seriously, nothing could be confirmed as of now, but the investigation is on and it is being ascertained as to what were the circumstances that led to his mysterious disappearance. Any information with regard to this particular case will be shared accordingly,” Sahu told Kashmir Observer.
Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Bilal Mohi-ud-Din Bhat told Kashmir Observer that he cannot divulge any details as the matter is under investigation at the moment. He was however quick to add that the army man who was recovered on Thursday will be arriving home.
Meanwhile, the family members of Javed extended gratitude to the civil and police administration for recovering their missing son alive.
“I cannot describe in words how happy I am. My son has been found alive by the police, what could be more gratifying than this. I am grateful to everyone including DC, SSP and Sp Kulgam for their support,” Javed’s mother told reporters.
It may be in place to mention that ADGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar had in a tweet informed that an army man, who went missing in Kulgam last week has been found and will be interrogated after medical checkup.
