Srinagar- Five days after militants attacked and injured three migrant workers in South Kashmir’s Shopian district, police on Tuesday attached Station House Officer (SHO), Shopian to Range Police Headquarter (RPHQ) Anantnag, pending an inquiry.
“In view of the incident occurred on 13.7.2023 at about 2030 hours at Gagren Shopian, Inspector Gh Jeelani Bhat (AWP) (SHO P/S Shopian) PID No ARP-109258, is attached to RPHQ Anantnag pending inquiry,” reads an order issued by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police south Kashmir range, Rayees Mohammad Bhat.
“This order shall have immediate effect,” it adds.
On Thursday last, Anmol Kumar, Heralal Yadav and Pintu Kumar Thakur, all residents of Bihar were injured when militants entered a building in Gagran area of the town and opened fire upon them. According to police, two local militants of the Lashkar-e-Taiba are believed to have carried out the attack.
Thursday’s firing incident was the second such attack on non-locals in Kashmir this year.
On May 29, a non-local civilian, identified as Deepu, was shot dead by militants in the Janglaat Mandi area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag District.
Deepu, a resident of Udhampur district in the Jammu region, worked at a private circus in Anantnag.
Before that, on February 26, militants shot dead a man belonging to the Kashmiri Pandit community in the Achan area of Pulwama district. The victim was identified as Sanjay Sharma (40), a resident of Achan.
This year has so far witnessed fewer such incidents compared to last year.
