Srinagar- A court here on Monday ordered further investigations into the “cold blooded” murder of advocate Babar Qadri.
Qadri, in his 30s, was shot dead by two people who came as clients to his Hawal Srinagar house and shot him dead in September 2020. Subsequently police formed a special team and in August 2021, they filed charges against five suspects. When security forces eliminated Abbas Sheikh, chief commander of The Resistance Front (TRF), a shadow front of LeT, and his deputy Saqib Manzoor, in September that year, the Kashmir Police underlined that Saqib Manzoor was also involved in Qadri’s murder.
“I/O (Investigation Officer) of the case shall conduct further investigation and file supplementary charge sheet as soon as possible,” said Sandeep Gandotra, Additional Sessions Judge Special Judge Designated Under NIA Act here, said. However, the court rejected the prayer for transfer of the investigation to any other agency and staying the proceedings of the case till further investigation. “Keeping in view the sensitivity of the matter, the I/O is directed to complete the further investigation as soon as possible and file supplementary charge sheet in the court,” the court said, adding, “The Director FSL Srinagar shall ensure that the seized electronic gadgets in this case are examined at the earliest and report is submitted under rules.”
FSL report pertains to the gadgets which were seized by the police during the searches from the residences of three advocates.
The court passed the directions on an application filed by Babar’s father Syed Mohammad Yaseen Qadri.
“Before parting, it would be proper to send a word of caution to Sr. S.P. Srinagar to re-evaluate the security concerns of the applicants (Babar’s family) because they have alleged that they are constantly getting threats,” the court added.
