Srinagar- A middle aged man was arrested by the police under stringent POSCO act in Srinagar for allegedly raping his 15-years old minor relative on Thursday.
The shocking incident took place day after a 22-year old youth was arrested under the same act for allegedly raping a minor girl child in Old Barzulla area in uptown Srinagar.
Police said the accused; a 46-years old man was arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl, who is also said to be his relative. The accused has been identified as Mohammad Iqbal Sheikh son of Ghulam Qadir Sheikh of Kanthpora, Sogam area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Police said the accused was putting up in a rented accommodation at Pamposh Colony Srinagar.
A formal case under FIR No 92 of 2023 under sections 352, 376, 506 of IPC and 3/4 of POSCO act has been registered in this regard at police station Safakadal.
Confirming the arrest, Srinagar police in a tweet said the accused has been arrested and is presently lodged at Safakadal police station.
“One Mohd Iqbal Sheikh (46 years) S/o Ghulam Qadir Sheikh R/o Kanthpora, Sogam Kupwara presently staying in Pamposh Colony, Srinagar arrested for raping a minor 15 years old girl. The accused is the relative of the child. FIR no 92/2023 U/S 352,376, 506 IPC & 3/4 POSCO act in PS Safakadal,” tweeted Srinagar police.
