Srinagar- Police on Wednesday claimed to have busted a sex racket in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district by arresting six accused, including two women.
Acting on information about the immoral activities being carried out in a rented house near Bus Stand Baramulla, a police team led by Station House Officer (SHO) carried out a raid and busted the prostitution racket, a police spokesperson said Wednesday.
The racket, he said, was run by a tenant Lateef Ahmad Chechi of Malangam Bandipora.
Besides Chechi, Altaf Ahmad Dar of Kralhar Baramulla, Khurshid Ahmad Chechi of Malangam Bandipora, Manzoor Ahmad Khan of Qazi Hamam Baramulla and two female sex workers (name withheld) were also detained, the spokesperson said.
Accordingly, he said, a case vide FIR No.136/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Baramulla and further investigation has been initiated.
“Police once again requested the netizens to do tenant verification before giving their houses/rooms/shops on rent,” he added.
