SRINAGAR- The 658th Urs of Hazrat Mir Syed Ali Hamadani (RA) popularly known as Shah-e-Hamdani and Amir-e-Kabir was observed in the Valley on Saturday with religious fervor and enthusiasm.
Syed Ali bin Shahab-ud-Din Hamadani Abidi (1314-1384) also known as “Shah Hamdan” (King of Hamadan) and as Amir-e Kabir (the Great Commander) was a Persian Sufi and a prominent Islamic mystic, Islamic scholar and a great reformer. He was very influential in spreading Islam in Kashmir and has had a major hand in shaping the culture of Kashmir and contributed greatly in the economic upliftment of Kashmiris.
He introduced the skills of famed Iranian handicrafts amongst the people for which Kashmir later became famous all over the world.
Every year,on the 6th Zilhaj of the lunar year, devotees in Kashmir observe his Urs and throng his hospice, the Khanqah-e-Maula in thousands.
On Saturday as usual thousands of devotees throng the riverside shrine where they recited verses from Holy Quran and awrad or Persian dua’s as taught by the great saint.
Scholars shed light on the life and achievements of Shah Hamdan. They expressed hope that the teachings of Shah-e-Hamdan shall remain alive in all times to come.
The Urs was organized by Muslim Waqaf Board.
The Urs was also observed with religious fervor at Khankah Faizpanah Tral, Jinab Sahab Soura, Aasar Sharif Kalashpora, Kabamarg and Khiram Sirhama in Anantnag, Dooru Seer Hamdan, Aham Sharif Bandipora, Budgam, Kupwara and Bandipora.
