Incident Sparks Massive Protests, Police Assures Action

Srinagar– In a shocking incident, a woman allegedly killed her husband at Rawatpora Bhagat locality in uptown Srinagar here this evening following a family feud, witnesses said.
The incident triggered massive protests in the locality, with protesters demanding stern punishment to the accused woman and her two daughters, who they alleged were torturing the victim day in and day out.
A fifty-year old man identified as Abdul Rashid Dar of Rawatpora Bhagat was allegedly killed by her wife inside their residence. The accused woman, locals alleged, fled from the scene soon after murdering her husband. She has been identified as Shaheena Begum.
They alleged that the accused and her two daughters were torturing the deceased, a labor by profession, even as he was paying hefty monthly maintenance in their favor.
“The accused lady had filed a case against the deceased, which was pending adjudication before the court. The court had directed the victim to pay monthly maintenance to the accused and her two daughters, which he was paying without any delay,” said one of the neighbors, protesting against what was termed as ‘cold blooded’ murder.
He alleged that the accused was often telling her husband that she doesn’t care for the judiciary or the police as the constitution favors women.
“Litigation was pending between the couple in the court, however the deceased was paying monthly maintenance to the accused as directed by the court well on time, but despite that he was being tortured and threatened with dire consequences in case he informs his relatives about the atrocities he was suffering,” he added.
Locals said the deceased was critically injured and was evacuated to the hospital for treatment where doctors declared him as brought dead.
Meanwhile a police team from Saddar police station reached the spot and assured protesters that the accused will be arrested soon.
Station House Officer (SHO) Saddar police station, Mudasir Nazar said investigation is on in the case and a manhunt has been launched to nab the accused woman.
