SCERT holds special prayer gathering as JD Pakhroo pays tribute

SRINAGAR- The educational community is in mourning following the untimely demise of Shams-ud-din Bhat, a highly regarded official who dedicated over three decades of his life to the field of education.
Bhat, serving as the Joint Director, Elementary Education at the Directorate of School Education (DSEK), tragically succumbed to a heart attack on Tuesday while carrying out his duties.
The news of Bhat’s sudden passing spread sorrow throughout the educational circles, prompting heartfelt condolences from various officials.
Hemraj Pakhroo, recently appointed as Joint Director (Central) at the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), personally visited the bereaved family at their residence in Kralpora, Srinagar.
Speaking on behalf of SCERT, Pakhroo expressed deep sympathy and described Bhat as a gentle soul and a man of unwavering integrity. He further highlighted the irreparable loss caused by Bhat’s departure, emphasizing his numerous admirable qualities.
Professor Parikshat Singh Manhas, Director of SCERT, also extended his condolences to the grieving family. In his message, he offered prayers for the eternal peace of the departed soul, recognizing the significant contributions Bhat made during his tenure in the education sector.
Among those expressing their condolences is Professor Veena Pandita, former chairman of JKBOSE and Director of SCERT. Prof. Pandita shared her grief over the sudden loss of Bhat, recalling the time they worked together.
Prof Pandita fondly remembered him as a man of character, further underscoring the profound impact Bhat had on the education sector.
Shams-ud-din Bhat, a resident of Gurez area in Bandipora district, was laid to rest in Kralpora, Budgam district, where he had been residing.
Bhat’s passing was unexpected and sudden, as he experienced chest pain while at work, leading to a cardiac arrest. He was promptly rushed to the SMHS Hospital, but unfortunately, all efforts to revive him proved futile.
The late Shams-ud-din Bhat’s extensive career in education spanned over 36 years, beginning in 1986 when he joined the department as a teacher.
In 1987, after successfully clearing the recruitment examination conducted by Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC), he became a lecturer, paving the way for a remarkable professional journey.
Bhat served in various key positions throughout his tenure, including Principal at DIET Bandipora, Chief Education Officer (CEO) in Kargil and Kulgam districts, and as Principal of the erstwhile State Institute of Education (SIE) in Bemina. He also held the position of JD (Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan) within the department.
Tragically, Bhat passed away just two months shy of his planned retirement. According to the officials at DSEK, he was due to retire on August 31, 2023, after a long and fruitful career dedicated to the betterment of education in the region.
Colleagues and acquaintances who had the privilege of knowing Shams-ud-din Bhat personally describe him as a person of great integrity and a down-to-earth individual. His untimely departure has left a void within the education community, and his contributions will be deeply missed.
