Srinagar- Body of seven-years old boy, who drowned in the Hokersar flood-channel at Bemina area of the city three days ago, was retrieved on Wednesday, officials said.
Ikhlas Ahmad, eight-years old boy from Hamdania Colony Bemina, according to locals slipped into Hokersar flood-channel on Sunday while playing football with his friends.
Officials said the dead body of Ikhlas was retrieved this morning and later handed over to his family for last rites after conducting necessary medico-legal formalities.
They said the police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team launched the rescue operation as soon as the incident took place. They said the locals also chip-in the rescue operation.
Locals said the minor boy slipped into the flood-channel while playing football with his friends on the fateful day.
“A joint rescue operation was launched on Sunday by the police and SDRF after the boy slipped into the Hokersar flood-channel, we had also availed the services of expert divers and after three days of strenuous efforts, dead body was retrieved and later handed over to the family for last rites,” they added.
Meanwhile hundreds of people from Bemina and its adjoining areas attended the funeral of eight-year old Ikhlas, who drowned in the flood-channel of Hokersar wetland on Sunday.
