Srinagar- Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated in Jammu and Kashmir on June 29 as the crescent of Zilhaj was sighted, Kashmir’s Grand cleric Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam said Monday.
He said that the crescent of holy Zilhaj was sighted in Batote area of Ramban district and as such Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated on June 29.
Zilhaj, the twelfth and last month of Islamic Calendar, largely holds relevance due to annual Hajj pilgrimage and (animal) sacrifices on eve of Bakr-e-Eid.
Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam told a local news agency GNS that all those intending to do sacrifices, making Qurbani of animals, are supposed not to trim their hair or nails until the sacrifices’ are actually made on any given day during Bakra-e-Eid, as per well-established Ahadith (sayings of Prophet Muhammad SAW).
Meanwhile, the crescent for the month of Zilhaj was also sighted on Monday in many cities including Lahore and Islamabad in Pakistan.
Chairman Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Syed Abdul Khabir Azad announced the sighting of the crescent in a press conference as the Committee received multiple evidences for the sighting of the new crescent.
Lahore Zonal Committee confirmed the sighting of the moon.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee for sighting Zilhaj moon met in Karachi on Monday in the office of the Meteorological Department under the chairmanship of Syed Abdul Khabir Azad.
It may be mentioned here that the Zilhaj crescent had been sighted in Saudi Arabia thus Youm-e-Arafat – the key ritual of Hajj, will be observed a day before Eid-ul Azha on Tuesday, June 27.
