Srinagar- In yet another shocking incident, a middle-aged man was arrested by the police under stringent provisions of Prevention of Children from Sexual Offenses (POSCO) Act for allegedly molesting his 13-year-old female relative in Chanapora locality in the uptown Srinagar on Thursday.
The arrest comes a day after a school teacher was arrested under the same act for molesting and sexually assaulting two minor girl students at a private school in Rawalpora area.
Pertinent to mention here that four people accused of molesting and sexually harassing minors have been arrested by the police during this month so far.
Police said the accused was arrested after the victim filed a complaint of sexual harassment at police station Chanapora in this regard. A formal case FIR No. 40 of 2023 under POSCO Act stands registered at the concerned police station and the accused has been arrested.
Police identified the accused as 48-years-old Mushtaq Ahmad Khan son of Ghulam Ahmad Khan of Housing Colony Chanapora.
“One Mushtaq Ahmad Khan (48 Yrs) S/o Gh Ahmad Khan R/o Housing Colony Chanapora arrested for sexually harassing his 13 years old female relative. FIR 40/2023 in POSCO Act registered at Chanpura PS. Srinagar police salutes the courage of this brave child in reporting this crime,” police said in a tweet.
On Wednesday, police arrested an Arabic teacher of a private school for molesting and sexually assaulting two minor female students of classes 4th and 5th at Rawalpora.
A resident of Gurez, the accused teacher, police said, was putting up in a rented accommodation in Hyderpora locality in uptown Srinagar.
Also on Wednesday, a man accused of sodomising a minor boy in Kreeri area of Baramulla district was arrested by the police.
Earlier this month, a government school principal was placed under suspension, hours after he was arrested by the police for allegedly molesting and harassing his students within and outside the school earlier this month.
Principal Boys Higher Secondary School Gund Hassibhat on the city outskirts was arrested by the police on the charges of molesting girl students.
