Srinagar- A policeman injured in a militant attack in this capital city, succumbed to his injuries at the SK institute of medical sciences (SKIMS) here after battling with life for nearly a year.
Head Constable Fayaz Ahmad Raina of Lohersanzi village of Kokernag breathed his last at the SKIMS, where he was admitted on July 12 after being injured in a militant attack, officials said. Raina had developed serious infection affecting his kidneys and thus deteriorating his health condition.
On July 12 last year, unknown militants opened fire upon Raina and two of his colleagues ASI Mushtaq Ahmad and SPO Abu Bakar when the trio were seated in their official vehicle near GD Goenka school, Lal Bazar.
The injured cops were removed to the SK institute of medical sciences, Soura for treatment. However, ASI Mushtaq succumbed to his injuries.
Meanwhile, hundreds of people participated in the funeral prayers of Raina at his native village. Senior police officers also attended his last rites.
A wreath laying ceremony was also held at his native village in which officers of Police led by DIG IRP Kashmir, Commandant IRP-10th Bn, Commandant IRP-13th Bn, Commandant IRP-17th Bn, Dy. Commandants of IRP-10th Bn, 13th Bn, DySsP of IRP-10th & 11th Bns, SDPO Kokernag and SHO Kokernag, other senior police officers participated.
ADGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar has also conveyed heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the family of the deceased cop for his supreme sacrifice made in the line of duty.
