SRINAGAR- The Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) successfully organised sports and other allied activities for the tribal population in most of the districts of Kashmir division.
The department in most of the Kashmir-based districts conducted different sports and recreational activities for the elders, youngsters and women of different tribal groups during the last 10 days. Speaking about this unique initiative of the Department, Waseem Raja Joint Director Kashmir of the Department of YSS said that under the “Sports for All” initiative the Department is exploring all possibilities to engage people from all walks and ages in sports and recreational activities with an aim to promote physical and mental wellness in common masses.
“An official communique was circulated in this regard wherein all the District Youth Services and Sports Officers of Kashmir division were directed by my office to organize activities for specially-abled, elderly people and tribal population,” he stated.
While providing details about the encouraging figures about participation in sports activities with an upward trend he said, “2 Lakh 85 thousand youth have participated in various sports activities. May 2023 in comparison to the previous month, i.e., April which was 1 Lakh 53 thousand depicting an encouraging flip of 86.3% growth.”
Meanwhile, the Department of Youth Services and Sports wrapped up the “Sports For Tribals” event in Gurez Valley with an exhilarating display of sportsmanship during the finals of Volleyball, Kabaddi, and Tug of War. The event marked a significant milestone for the Department. District Youth Services and Sports Officer Bandipora was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
The event was a celebration of sports and culture, with students from Gurez showcasing their talents through various local cultural folk songs. The spectators were treated to an exciting tug-of-war match, followed by enthralling Volleyball and Kabaddi finals. The competitive spirit and camaraderie displayed by the participants were truly commendable, reflecting the passion and dedication of the youth in Gurez Valley.
The event concluded with a memorable award ceremony, where deserving athletes were honored with mementos and medals. The winners, runners-up, and guests were acknowledged for their remarkable contributions to the success of the event. Also, Sports Kits for the Youth of Gurez were distributed among them on the occasion.
The conclusion of the “Sports For Tribals” event in Gurez Valley marks an important chapter in the efforts of DYSS J&K to promote sports and cultural exchange among the tribal communities. This event served as a platform for young athletes to showcase their skills and foster a sense of unity and harmony through sports.
