55,000 Smart Meters To Be Converted Into Prepaid: CE
By Majid Nabi
Srinagar- In an effort to give consumers access to cutting-edge technologies, Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Ltd. (KPDCL) is all set to convert 55,000 previously installed postpaid smart meters into prepaid meters in the valley from June this year.
The corporation has urged the consumers to cooperate with the government to avail uninterrupted power supply in their localities. It also said that of the total 1, 70,000 smart meters installed in the valley, 50,000 postpaid smart meters will be converted into prepaid meters.
Addressing the media at his office, Chief Engineer KPDCL Kashmir Zone, Javed Yusuf Dar said process of conversion will be done in the phased manner and that the consumers have to login to Sahulat App to recharge their prepaid smart meters.
Dar said consumers could now recharge their smart meters from the comfort of their homes rather than wasting their time in long queues at the bank branches.
“Consumers could now recharge as per their need, there is a recharge option available in the Sahulat App. Consumers could also keep a track of how much power was used the day before and how much was remaining. Most of the consumers pay electricity bills at bank branches and wait in long queues. They can pay bills at home by opting for prepaid mode. We have also issued an advertisement in newspapers in this regard,” he said.
He said the consumers have also been informed to convert their postpaid meters into prepaid meters by downloading smart bill Sahulat App from the app store.
Dar said the postpaid meters will be automatically converted into prepaid meters through KPDCL data center, once the consumers liquidate their previous electricity bills.
“Consumers could recharge their smart meters when their account comes down to Rs 100. There is nothing to be apprehensive about; we are here to assist them. If there is any confusion, we have already uploaded a video on our tweeter and social media handles for our consumer assistance,” he added.
“As soon as payment is done, smart meters will be automatically converted into prepaid. Consumers will also get SMSs as well, but recharge could be done through smart BS App only instead of making cash payment at the banks,” CE KPDCL said.
