New Delhi- The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday conducted raids at several locations across the Kashmir Valley in a case related to militancy conspiracy.
According to a statement, the raids were conducted in Anantnag, Srinagar, Pulwama, Shopian and Budgam districts, during which incriminating material and documents were also seized.
The statement reads that the raids were conducted in the premises’ of sympathizers, hybrid militants and OGWs linked with the newly-formed offshoots and affiliates of several proscribed Pak-backed militant organisations, including Laskhar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM), Al-Badr, Al-Qaeda, etc.
“The raids were part of the ongoing investigations of NIA in the terror conspiracy case, involving the activities of OGWs and cadres in support of various newly-launched outfits, such as The Resistance Front (TRF), United Liberation Front Jammu & Kashmir (ULFJ&K), Mujahideen Gazwat-ul-Hind (MGH), Jammu & Kashmir Freedom Fighters (JKFF), Kashmir Tigers, PAAF, among others.”
It added that besides militant and violent activities, these cadres and workers had been found involved in collection and distribution of sticky, magnetic bombs, IEDs, funds, narcotics and arms and ammunition.
“NIA investigations had further revealed that Pak-based operatives were involved in delivery of arms and ammunition, explosives, narcotics etc. to these cadres and workers in the Kashmir valley via drones. Social media platforms were also being widely used by the operatives across the border to connect with OGWs and cadres in Kashmir.”
The statement reads that NIA had registered the case (RC-05/2022/NIA/JMU) suo motu on 21st June 2022.
“The matter related to conspiracy and plans, hatched physically as well in cyberspace, by these proscribed terrorist organisations. The conspirators aimed to unleash violent terrorist attacks in J&K with sticky bombs, IEDs and small arms etc, as part of a larger conspiracy to commit acts of terror and violence by radicalising local youth and mobilising and deploying overground workers.”
It added in connection with the investigation of this case, since the beginning of this month, NIA has conducted more than 70 searches in Jammu and Kashmir.
Meanwhile NIA on Monday filed a supplementary chargesheet against an accused in a case related to militant activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement, a spokesperson said that the NIA has charged Faisal Muneer @ Ali Bhai, a resident of Talab Khatikan area under P.S Peer Mitha Jammu of conspiring with Pakistan-based operatives of LeT/TRF for transportation of firearms and explosives for carrying out militant acts in India.
“He had entered into a conspiracy with his handlers based across-the-border to deliver the consignments of weapons and explosives to active terrorist commanders and operatives of these outfits for commission of terror acts in India, as per NIA investigations,” reads the statement.
It reads that as part of the conspiracy hatched with other co-accused and handlers/operatives of LeT/TRF, Faisal had actively worked for LeT/TRF and had received funds from operatives of LeT, with the intent to further its militant activities.
“Faizal is the fourth person to be chargesheeted in the case (RC-32/2021/NIA/DLI), registered suo moto by NIA on 18th November 2021. NIA had earlier filed a chargesheet against accused Arsalan Feroz @ Arsalan Soub, Muzamil Mushtaq Bhat @ Hamza and Mudasir Ahmed Dar respectively on 18th June, 9th November and 17th December, 2022.”
It added that the three accused, found working at the behest of LeT/TRF operatives, as Overground Workers (OGWs), were charged under various sections of the law.
“During investigations, it emerged that Faisal Muneer was working as an active OGW of LeT/TRF, and was involved in receiving, collecting, and supplying weapons /explosives /funds. These materials were sent/dropped from Pakistan via drones in the areas situated near International Border area of Samba/Kathua, for carrying out terrorist activities in India.”
It further reads after receiving the consignments from his associates, accused Faisal Muneer used to store them at his residence for onward delivery to militant operatives and their OGWs, on the directions of the LeT/TRF operatives based across the border.
“In its supplementary chargesheet filed today in the NIA Special Court, Patiala House, NIA has charged Faisal under various sections of IPC, Arms Act and UA(P) Act, 1967.” it reads.
