A massive landslide triggered by heavy rains prompted authorities to suspend traffic on the strategic 270-km Jammu-Srinagar highway on Friday, officials said.
The landslide struck the highway, the only all-weather road linking Kashmir with the rest of the country, at Shalgari, Banihal, the officials said. This was the second landslide to hit the treacherous highway in the mountainous district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Reports said that an unspecified number of trucks carrying essential commodities to the Valley, besides light motor vehicles (LMVs) are stranded along the highway.
