Srinagar- At least 780 persons have died in different road accidents in the past five years in Srinagar and Jammu region falling under the jurisdiction of Traffic Police City Jammu and Srinagar respectively.
Jammu City has witnessed more fatalities as compared to Srinagar from 2018 to 2022.
The Traffic Department has made the data public in reply to the queries raised by the applicant M M Shuja under the Right to Information Act.
The data as per the news agency KNT reveals that 6,585 persons were injured in Jammu for the last five years as compared to Srinagar where the number of road accident injuries stands at 1,776.
As per the data, 229 persons died in different road accidents from 2018 to 2022 in areas falling under the jurisdiction of Traffic Police City Srinagar. The highest number of casualties, 53 were witnessed last year in 2022.
In areas falling under the jurisdiction of Traffic Police City Jammu, 551 persons were killed in road accidents. The highest number of fatalities were recorded in 2021 and the number was 107.
Overall the number of deaths in Jammu and Srinagar cities in the past year was 780 and 8,151 persons sustained injuries.
