Srinagar- Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested a militant associate of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) from Bandipora district of North Kashmir.
Jamshed Ahmad Bhat was arrested by a joint team of police, army and CRPF from a checkpoint established near Canal Road in Aloosa area of the district, a police spokesperson said. The checkpoint, he said, was established on the basis of specific information regarding movement of militants.
“Incriminating materials, ammunition and explosives including 01 Chinese grenade & 12 live AK-47 rounds were recovered from his possession,” the spokesperson said.
He said a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at PS Bandipora and further investigation has been initiated in this regard.
Ammo Recovered In Kupwara Forest
The government forces recovered a huge cache of ammunition in a forest area in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district, police said Thursday.
Based on reliable input, a joint search operation was launched by Police and Army in Haphruda forest of the district, a police spokesperson said. During the search, he said, a huge cache of ammunition including 720 rounds of 7.62 mm (most likely of Chinese origin), 05 rounds of RPGs, 09 booster tubes of RPG and 10 x UBGL grenades (most likely of Russian origin) were recovered.
“The ammunition was concealed in the forest area with adequate packaging. In fact few of the ammunition has been found in sealed packages,” the spokesperson said.
He said that a thorough search in the forest area was launched t for any more caches of arms and ammunition or for any hideout.
