Srinagar- Krishi Vigyan Kendra Srinagar, SKUAST-Kashmir today organized a one day “Farmers Awareness and Welfare Event” in collaboration with IFFCO, Jammu & Kashmir at KVK Campus.
The aim of the programme was to highlight the issues related to indiscriminate use of fertilizers and its impact on human health. The programme was attended by more than 100 participants including farmers, staff members and University Officers.
After welcoming the dignitaries and participants, Dr. Sajad Mohiuddin, (Sr. Scientist & Head) KVK Srinagar deliberated upon the importance of balanced and judicious use of fertilizers that not only ensures crop production but does not pose any challenge to environment. Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi- Director Extension, SKUAST-K Shalimar, who consented as chief guest of the function, emphasized on the adaption of modern and cost effective technologies like nano urea for better returns. He laid stress on the use of fertilizers with utmost care and wisdom so that environmental and ecological balance is not disturbed.
At the end of the event, fruit saplings, vegetable seedlings & farm implements were distributed free of cost among the participating farmers. A medical awareness cum health check up camp was also organised for the participating farmers with the support of TEAM RED (NGO).
