Jammu- A young man has been arrested in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district on charges of molestation and hooliganism, after he allegedly made a false claim of being abducted by cops, police said on Monday.
The arrest of a twenty year old followed an investigation into a video on social media in which he was heard claiming that some police officials beat him up and snatched his mobile phone and Rs 20,000 cash, an official spokesperson said.
He said Senior Superintendent of Police, Kishtwar, Khalil Poswal took serious note of the video and constituted a special squad to probe the allegation.
During the inquiry, the official said, it was found that accused had actually been booked for molestation on a complaint from a resident of Lalpatan village and had made the video to save his image by concocting a story that he was kidnapped by some policemen.
The accused was arrested and further investigation is on, the spokesman said, warning of legal action against anyone found uploading fake videos or posts on social media.
