Srinagar- A day after two youths were arrested for stalking and harassing a female in Dalgate area of the city, authorities on Monday said that an intense drive will be launched against eve-teasers and reckless driving in Srinagar in coming days.
Pertinently, two youths were arrested for stalking and harassing a girl in Dalgate area a day earlier while the registration of the two-wheeler used in the commission of crime was suspended as well.
Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Kashmir, Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari said that an intense drive will be launched against eve-teasers and rash driving in the city in coming few days and those found involved in any such activity will be dealt with sternly.
The RTO Kashmir said besides cancelling registration of vehicles, driving licenses of those found involved in eve teasing or reckless driving will be cancelled as well. He said the drive will be launched across Srinagar.
“Eve-teasing is a social malice and it’s unfortunate that our youth indulge in such shameful activities, we did our job so did the police, now it is the collective responsibility of the society especially parents have an undeniable role in teaching concepts of good and evil and moral values to their children,” he told the media, adding an intense drive against eve-teasers and rash driving will be launched in Srinagar soon.
The RTO Kashmir appealed to the youth to avoid indulging in evil activities like eve-teasing as the same not only spoil the society but have a bad effect on their future as well. Bukhari said police, civil administration and mainstream media have a role to play to prevent the young generation from indulging in evil activities.
“These activities do happen in Srinagar including Bhagat, Rajbagh and several other areas. Our enforcement drive will be intense not only in specific areas but across Srinagar. Besides registration of the vehicle, the license too will be cancelled,” he added.
Meanwhile Duty Officer (DO) police station Nehru Park, Mansha Beig appealed to the girls to come forward and register a complaint against eve-teasing. She said the victim girl brought the incident into the notice of police through social media, following which both the accused were arrested within less than twelve hours.
“I being a female myself, appeal to all girls to stand against this menace, come forward and register a complaint with the police. Police are committed to take stringent action against all those who indulge in eve-teasing like shameful acts,” she added.
