Srinagar- The crescent of Sha’ban-ul- Muazzam has been sighted and the Shab-e-Baraat will fall on March 7.
Grand Mufti of Kashmir, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam announced that his office has received several credible witnesses’ from across Jammu and Kashmir regarding the sighting of the moon.
“There are several credible witnesses’ on record with this office, owing to which the announcement for the observance of Wednesday (February 22, 2023) as first day of Sha’ban-ul-Muazzam 1444 A.H is hereby being made”, Islam said.
Notably, Sha’ban, the eighth month in Islamic (lunar) calendar precedes the fasting month of Ramazan.
Islamic calendar months last either 29 or 30 days, depending on when the crescent moon is sighted. As per astronomical calculations, Sha’ban is expected to last 30 days, with the holy month of Ramazan likely to begin on March 24. Residents are likely to get 29 days of fasting, with the first day of Eid Al Fitr likely to be on Saturday, April 22.
