Srinagar- As Srinagar braces to host G20 meetings, the administration is in the process of beautifying roads and junctions.
The road from Srinagar Airport to SKICC, Residency Road, Boulevard Road, roads leading to Hotel Lalit, Hotel Taj and Nehru Guest House, roads leading to Mughal gardens, Parimahal, Cheshmashahi, Botanical Garden, Srinagar towards Zeastha Temple, Shankar Acharya, Dalgate to Hazratbal will also be upgraded and beautified.
Officials say the work is underway to beautify the Jhelum riverfront.
Besides, the historical clock tower known as Ghanta Ghar in the heart of the city will be upgraded before the start of G20 meets and events in the summer capital.
The flyovers in the city will also be beautified, said the officials.
“Footpaths will be developed, roads will be furnished, roadside VMDs will be installed, beautiful hoardings will be there. Besides, wooden poles will be removed. Wherever there are unnecessary dividers, they will be removed.
Government buildings and other important structures will be painted to increase the aesthetic value of those structures,” said a top official.
The official further said that the haphazard growth of trees along the roadside are being looked into and these trees especially the Chinar trees will be pruned while ornamental green plants will be placed on footpaths and along the roads in Srinagar city.
“All the withered trees will be removed,” he added.
The official said that the installation of traffic lights and welcome hoardings at designated places is also part of the government action plan. [with KNT inputs]
