SRINAGAR- Three-year-old Hoor Fatima has left her competitors at the ongoing FIDE-rated ‘Chess For Every One’ tournament astounded with her strong mind and chess playing abilities.
Srinagar-born Hoor is the youngest participant at the chess tournament being held at Indoor Sports Stadium in Polo View, where 108 players from different regions are participating. Till February 19, Hoor had secured one point from her five games.
Hoor Fatima’s interest in chess piqued after watching her parents play the game at home. Since the recent developments, Hoor’s chess skills have attracted local clubs and coaches to her potential.
Hoor’s mother, Salma Ashai, believes every child is unique and may have different interests and preferences.
“Encourage your child to explore different types of games and find what they enjoy the most. The most important thing is to make it enjoyable for them,” she said.
‘Chess For Every One’ is being conducted as per Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE) laws of chess and the FIDE Swiss System with nine rounds. Comrade Parvaiz, treasurer of The Kashmir Chess Club, is the tournament director and FA Pavan and K Rathi are the Chief Arbiters.
The tournament is scheduled to end on Tuesday, February 21.
