Srinagar- A partial shutdown was observed in Srinagar on Wednesday against the ongoing anti-encroachment drive launched by the government to ‘reclaim’ state land from the encroachers.
While shops and business establishments in and around city center Lal Chowk were shut, public and private vehicles were plying normally on roads, reports said. Similar reports were received from the old city wherein business activities remained ‘suspended’ as a mark of protest.
Reports said the posters calling for shutdown against the ongoing demolition drive launched by the government appeared in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Reports reaching from north Kashmir including Bandipora, Baramulla and Kupwara said the impact of shutdown call evoked no response as markets were abuzz with shoppers throughout the day.
Similar reports were received from central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district wherein shutdown call evoked partial or no response.
Complete shutdown was however observed in Anantnag district of south Kashmir wherein all marketplaces remained closed as a mark of protest.
In Shopian, Kulgam and Pulwama districts of north Kashmir, shutdown call evoked positive response in few areas and partial in others.
