SRINAGAR- Special prayers were held at Central Jamia Masjid Srinagar, for those who lost their lives in the devastating earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria earlier this week, leaving over 22,000 dead.
Special prayers at Jamia Masjid Srinagar were led by Imam Hai Moulana Ahmad Saeed Naqshbandi, who on behalf of the people of Kashmir, expressed sympathy and solidarity with the people of Turkey and Syria and prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls and speedy recovery to those injured, a statement reads.
On the occasion, the people who had come from various parts of the valley prayed for peace to those who lost their lives during earthquake.
More than 22,000 people are dead after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake rocked southeastern Turkey and northwestern Syria early Monday, according to officials.
The pre-dawn quake was centered in the town of Pazarcik in Turkey’s southeastern Kahramanmaras province and was followed by several powerful aftershocks. Thousands of buildings were toppled on both sides of the border, and the death toll was expected to rise as rescue workers searched for survivors in the massive piles of rubble.
