SRINAGAR- The J&K cricket team faced a humiliating defeat against Railways on Thursday, as the side was comprehensively defeated by an innings and 73 runs in the Ranji Trophy match.
The J&K side could only make 193 in their second innings on Day 3 of the four-day test match. Wicketkeeper Fazil Rashid scored 53 (57) to boost J&K’s total, but with only Aquib Nabi 31 (50) and Vivrant Sharma 29 (42) contributing with the bat, the team was bowled out in 62.4 overs.
Railways’ left arm spinner Akash Pandey again proved to be the wrecker in-chief as he took 4 wickets in the second innings. He had taken 6 in the first.
Earlier, Railways scored 427 runs in the first innings. In reply, the J&K side was bundled out for 161 and was forced to follow-on. The match was played at Lalbhai Contractor Stadium in Surat, Gujarat. For Railways, left-hand batter Mohammad Saif scored an unbeaten 233* (293) to lead his side to a grand total.
J&K will next face Punjab on January 10.
