SRINAGAR- The Jammu & Kashmir batters again put up a meek show in the ongoing Ranji Trophy as Railways enforced a follow on after bowling out J&K for a paltry 161 on Day 2 of the four-day test. At stumps, the J&K side was on 5/0.
Earlier, riding on a brilliant and unbeaten double century by left-handed batter Mohammad Saif 233* (293), Railways managed to amass a total of 427 runs. Railways were 274/8 at one stage, but J&K failed to take the last two wickets and gave away 174 runs to tailenders. Railways ended Day 1 at 322/8, and managed to add 105 runs before being bowled out. Abid Mushtaq was the pick of J&K bowlers as he took 4 wickets in the first innings.
J&K batters fell like a deck of cards in their first innings as only opening batter Suryansh Singh 48 (89) and no. 4 batter Musaif Ajaz 39 (91) managed to score any meaningful runs. Railways’ left arm spinner Akash Pandey ripped through J&K batters, taking 6 wickets in the process.
J&K batters will now hope to cut Railways’ 261 lead on Day 3 at Lalbhai Contractor Stadium in Surat, Gujarat.
