Srinagar- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday inaugurated two infrastructure projects to improve road connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh Union territories, officials said.
Among the 28 projectrs inaugurated by Singh through virtual mode included newly rebuild 240 feet Bailey Suspension Bridge (BSB) Maitra Bridge over Chenab in Ramban and the double-lane Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road, they said.
The Defence Minister inaugurated the projects while on a visit to Arunachal Pradesh.
At the Maitra Bridge site, they said, District Development Council, Chairperson, Ramban, Dr Shamshad Shan unveiled the inaugural stone in presence of Commander, 11-Sector, Rashtriya Rifles, Brig. Joe Sabby; Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Mussarat Islam and SSP Ramban, Mohita Sharma, Commander, 760 Border Roads Task Force (BRTF), Superintendent Engineer (Civil), Sunil Chander Srivastava; Officer Commanding (Executive Engineer) 52 RCC GREF, Kumar Gautam and various other senior officers, prominent citizens.
Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road was also among the projects virtually inaugurated by Rajnath Singh and physically inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal Shyambir at Hari Pora village of the district in presence of Brigadier Saket Singh, Chief Engineer BRO Kashmir, officials of BRO, army and district administration, the officials said.
All arrangements to witness the virtual conference were made at the venue by the BRO.
The SSG road is a strategic road that has a social and economic impact on the population of Ladakh as they are dependent on the daily needs of their logistics and essential commodities.
