Jammu- A day after The Resistance Front (TRF) issued a threat to BJP office bearers in Kashmir, the Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh said on Friday that militants have “stopped very low” and have nothing to do apart from trying to damage the spirit of harmony and brotherhood among the people of the Union Territory.
“Some people have stooped so low that they have nothing to do and now they are trying to damage the spirit of harmony and brotherhood of the people of J&K,” Singh said, while speaking to reporters at Bakhshi Stadium here on Friday.
He was responding to a question about the threat issued by TRF, believed to be an offshoot of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, to BJP office bearers in Kashmir.
The DGP, who was the chief guest at the inaugural function of the 18th Police Martyrs Memorial Football Tournament, said that the militants and their masters cannot digest the peace and development taking place in the Valley.
In response to a question about the arrest of five cops allegedly involved in drug trade, the DGP said that stringent action has already been taken against all those involved in drug trade for the greater good of the society.
The challenge of drugs will be faced as strongly as the challenge of terrorism is being faced,” Singh said, adding that people of J&K have to continue their support against the drug menace.
The Football Tournament, the DGP said, was being organised to pay tributes to the policemen killed in the line of duty
“Jammu and Kashmir Police is organizing a number of tournaments and events throughout the year in order to provide platforms to the youth of J&K. These programmes bridge the gap between the department, youth & people and also spreads message of peace in the society,” he added.
Later in the day, the DGP chaired an officers meeting at Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir to review the security scenario of Valley.
“The officers briefed the DGP J&K regarding the security scenario and measures taken in their respective jurisdictions,” a police spokesperson said.
