The initiative aims to make e-bikes a substitute of commuting in the city
Srinagar- At a time when commuting in Srinagar city is becoming tiresome due to traffic jams and huge volume of vehicles, a group of Kashmiri youth are set to launch an E-Bike venture in association with the Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL).
Experts suggest the battery-powered two-wheelers have the potential to become a compelling alternative for commuters who are being discouraged from taking public transportation. For those looking for leisure rides, the bikes can provide much-needed fresh air.
Speaking to Kashmir Observer, Sheikh Yameen, Managing Director & Co founder of Srinagar based Startup, ‘Curve Electric’ said that it took them months in conceiving the whole idea & making everything from scratch to make these E-bikes “Kashmir Friendly” before they could convince the SSCL authorities to give green signal to launch the ‘ecofriendly’ proposal.
Pertinently, E-bikes draw power from a battery which makes commuting significantly easier. The battery driven two wheeler has transformed cycling from a strenuous exercise into a joy ride.
Yameen said the authorities have permitted them to run 200 E-Bikes and in the next few days the E-bikes will be seen plying on the city roads.
“To begin with we will launch 50 E-bikes at 12 docking stations in the city and in a few weeks we will ensure all 200 of them hit city roads” he said.
The docking stations are being set up at Islamia College, Dalgate, Botanical Garden, Nishat, Kashmir University, Illahi Bagh, Soura, TRC, Kothi Bagh, Raj Bagh , Sanat Nagar, Bemina among other places.
He said the E-Bikes are technology driven, GPS enabled and the maximum speed of the E-bike is 25km/hour. These battery driven cycles can run up to 55kms per charge.
“On throttle, it has a speed of 25km/hr but seeing the kind of traffic we have in the city, one can run at 17km/hr on an average,” Yameen said.
Speaking on how a commuter can avail a ride, Zubair Bhat, Head of Operations, said one can avail the commuting facility by showing his or her Aadhar card and phone number for the first time, thereafter they will only have to use their phone number.
Zubair said the customers will be charged 0.90 paise per minute and the Payments have to be made at the docking station in online or offline mode.
However, during night, keeping the safety of the E bikes in mind, Our E-Autos will pick them up to ensure safety since no one commutes during night time, so there is no fun keeping them on roadsides.
Zubair said the ride on the E-Bikes is open to all. It is unisex and in order to appreciate females to take the ride, we will apply feminine colors as well”
“We want to make it a mode of transport and people should use it on a daily basis. It is expected to be safe ride and it will save time, money, effort & above all environment”
Zubair further said that for regular customers they will launch a subscription model in which they will avail other benefits .Once we understand the commuters behavior with the help of technology, we will later rent private shops and will operate within them as well to make our operations more accessible to the general population.
