Shopian- A newly recruited local militant affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba was killed while as a soldier was injured in a gunfight that broke out between militants and security forces in orchards of Shirmal village in Zainapora area in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, officials said on Monday.
Reports reaching here said that on specific input about the presence of militants, a joint team of police, Army and CRPF launched a search operation in the area.
“As the joint team of forces advanced towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants opened fire, which was retaliated, triggering an encounter”, officials said.
They said that during exchange of fire, a militant identified as Aqib Ahmad Paul, son of Mohammed Akram Paul of Drawani Imamsahib Shopian who was affiliated with LeT and active since 5th of this month was killed. One soldier of 44 RR was injured who has been shifted to 92 base hospital Srinagar for treatment, they said.
Reinforcement have been rushed to the area and search operation was going on when report was being filed.
