SRINAGAR- J&K Sports Council’s ‘My Youth My Pride’ attracted a huge crowd at Kulgam as various sports events were held in the district on Wednesday.
Two cricket matches were played at Nowgam, Devsar Ground and in the first encounter, Aakran Seniors were pitted against Akhran Juniors. The Juniors lost to seniors by 9 runs and from seniors Sameer was the highest scorer with a score of 41 runs, while Shakir, Adnan and Faizan bagged 2 wickets each for Seniors.
Sameer was adjudged player of the match.
In another match of the day, Achnak Akhran were pitted against Government High School Akhran. Achnak Akhran after winning the toss decided to bat and folded at paltry 46 runs. Irfan was pick of the bowlers for GHS Kulgam who claimed 3 wickets while conceding only 7 runs.
However, GHS innings folded at 32 runs with none of the batsmen able to handle the bowling attack of the opponents.
Adnan was pick of the bowlers for Achnak Akhran claiming 4 wickets in one over, and was awarded player of the match.
In another event of the day, Akhran Playfield hosted a couple of hockey matches. In the first match, Kulgam Kings playing against Akhran Stars won the match with 3 goals with opponents able to enter goal only once.
Milad scored 2 goals and Afaan scored one goal for the winners while Ashfaq’s single shot to the net was the only saving grace for the Akhran Stars.
In the second match played at the same venue, Boys High School Kulgam played against Kulgam Stars. Basit scored 4 and Adil Shaber hit 2 for Kulgam Stars to end the match 6-2.
Matches in the discipline of Kho-Kho in the district were in progress when the report was filed.
The 3rd District Srinagar Yogasana competition organised by District Srinagar Yogasana Association affiliated to J&K Yogasana Association under the aegis of J&K Sports Council was held on Wednesday in the Multiplex Sports Hall Pologround, Srinagar.
Around 400 participants competed with each other in different age categories The competitions were held in the categories of Traditional, Artistic Singles, Artistic Group and Rhythmic events for both boys and girls.
Superintendent of Police East Srinagar Sahil Sarangal inaugurated the championship earlier in the day and the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir P.K. Pole presided over the function as the chief guest at the conclusion of the event.
A number of football matches were also played in renovated Bakshi Stadium Srinagar among many educational institutes of Srinagar, with prominent among them being Gandhi Memorial College Srinagar and Burn Hall School, Srinagar.
The participants were drawn from the different institutes of district Srinagar including schools and colleges.
