Srinagar- Scores of candidates who qualified the Finance Account Assistant (FAA) exam held by the Jammu & Kashmir Service Selection Board (JKSSB) continued with the sit-in protest for the ninth day, on Friday.
The protesting candidates amid scorching summer heat raised slogans against the JKSSB and narrated their ordeal.
The candidates said they are on the verge of getting married and they had pinned their hopes on the FAA recruitment. Most of the protesting candidates are unmarried but they wanted to get married at the earliest and after the selection list was declared.
As rumors loom large that the selection list may be scrapped, candidates desperate to marry at an early age may not be able to tie the martial knot at the earliest.
Syed Tasir, 30 a candidate from Srinagar’s Old City is engaged to the love of his life. As the SSB released the selection list, he hoped to get married soon.
His hopes of getting married at the earliest were marred after rumors of the FAA selection list getting scrapped started doing rounds.
Since day one of the protest Tasir has been regular in attending the protests at Press Enclave.
“I am under tremendous anxiety and stress and I fainted the other day. If the selection list is quashed, my hopes of getting married early will be doomed” a heartbroken Tasir said Kashmir Observer.
Kysar, 30 from Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal District voiced similar concerns.
“In Kashmiri society, in order to get married you ought to have a government job, if this list is scrapped we will be left with nothing” Kysar said.
“I see my father getting retired from government service in the next few years, who will look after my siblings, they have ailments” he added.
While most of the protesting candidates are unmarried, a handful of them are married and have kids.
Unmarried candidates say if the exam is quashed their hopes of getting married early will die, those married question who will take care of our wives and children.
It is pertinent to mention, the protests were sparked by the rumors that the FAA selection list may be scrapped as it alleged that some candidates may have cheated in the exam.
The JKSSB had advertised posts for the Finance Account Assistant (FAA), Junior Assistant, Sub Auditor and other positions in December 2020.
The exam for which was held in the month of March, 2022. JKSSB had published the merit list on 22nd April, 2022.
