Srinagar- Police in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district have booked a notorious and habitual car lifter under the Public Safety Act (PSA) for his continuous involvement in vehicle theft cases.
Riyaz Ahmed Rather alias Riyaz Gani of Nasrullahpora is the kingpin of a vehicle-lifting gangs operating in various districts of J&K especially in Budgam, a police spokesperson said Monday.
“There was huge resentment among the public for his involvement in repeated criminal activities of car lifting/theft incidents as such there was every likelihood of turning of said issue of car lifting into law & order problems,” he said, adding that the habitual thief was booked under PSA.
The police spokesperson also urged the community members to be aware of such thieves/fraudsters who steal the vehicles and thereafter sell these to innocent gullible people.
“People are as such requested not to purchase vehicles without verifying the credentials of vehicle documents and not to fall prey to such fraudsters who usually sell these vehicles at low rates. Besides, register a complaint to the nearest police station if any such suspicious or fraudulent activity is noticed,” he added.
