11 Militants, Including 3 Pakistanis Killed In Last Two Days
Srinagar- Four more militants, including the killer of a police officer, were shot dead by government forces in two separate encounters in Pulwama and Baramulla districts of the Valley, taking the total number of militants killed in the last two days to 11, police said Tuesday.
Abid Ahmad Sheikh and Majid Nazir Wani of Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) were killed in a firefight with the joint team of police, army’s 53 RR and the personnel of CRPF183 battalion in Tujjan area of Pulwama, a police spokesperson said.
The encounter, he said, started after the joint team started a search operation in the village on specific input about the presence of militants.
The spokesperson said that the hiding militants opened fire on the search team which was retaliated, leading to an encounter in which both Sheikh and Wani were killed.
As per police records, he said, both the killed militants were part of a group involved in several cases including attacks on security forces and “civilian atrocities”.
Wani, the spokesperson claimed, was involved in the killing of police sub-inspector Farooq Ahmad.
“Incriminating materials, huge cache of arms & ammunition were recovered from the site of the encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation,” he added.
In a separate encounter in Sopore, the spokesperson said two more newly recruited local militants of Lashkar-e-Taiba were killed.
Police identified the duo as Zahid Ahmad Chopan of Shopian and Mohd Youns Gul of Pulwama.
“Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including 02 AK-47 rifles & 04 Magazines have been recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation,” the spokesperson said.
He quoted IGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar as congratulating the joint teams for carrying out the operations in a professional manner without any collateral damage.
“He also appreciated the joint team for tracking & neutralizing the terrorist involved in the recent killing of police officer in Pulwama,” the spokesperson said.
“Regarding both the incidents, Police have registered cases under relevant sections of law and investigation has been initiated. People are requested to cooperate with Police till the areas are completely sanitized and cleared off of all the explosive materials, if any,” he added.
Pertinently, with the killing of four more militants on Tuesday, the overall death toll of militants in a series of gunfights with government forces have reached eleven in the last two days.
Among the killed militants, police had said, three were Pakistani nationals.
Meanwhile, IGP Kashmir said that 118 militants have been killed in Kashmir this year so far, including 32 foreigners.
“So far 118 militants including 32 foreign militants killed in #Kashmir in current year. Last year in 2021 total 55 militants including two #foreign militants were killed in the same period. Out of 118, 77 militants are from #Pak sponsored LeT and 26 from JeM outfit,” Kashmir Police Zone tweeted while quoting IGP Vijay Kumar.
