Srinagar- Three foreign militants of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and a policeman on Wednesday were killed in a chance encounter in Kreeri area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, police said.
Police and army’s 52 RR established joint special checkpoints in many places of Kreeri on Wednesday on the basis of information about the movement of militants in the area, a police spokesperson said. At a checkpoint near Shrakwara-Najibhat crossing, he said, the militants noticed the joint party and opened fire upon them.
The joint team, he said, retaliated to the fire leading to a chance encounter.
In the fierce gunfight, the spokesperson said, 3 foreign militants were killed and a police personnel, Mudasir Ahmad Sheikh received critical gunshot injuries.
“The injured was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and attained martyrdom,” he said.
The spokesperson said that bodies of all the killed militants were retrieved from the site. He identified the trio as Ali Bhai, Hanief Bhai and Shah Wali all the residents of Pakistan.
All the three, he said, were active in Pattan-Kreeri axis and were being tracked.
“Incriminating materials, huge cache of arms and ammunition and IEDs including 03 AK-47 Rifles, 15 AK-47 Magazines, 344 AK-rounds, 05 Chinese grenades, 03 IEDs have been recovered from the site of encounter,” he said.
“All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation. In this regard, Police have registered a case under relevant sections of law and investigation has been initiated. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared off of all the explosive materials, if any,” he added.
The spokesperson further said that searches are on for a suspect who possibly escaped from the site.
Talking to media persons at wreath laying ceremony at District Police Line Baramulla, IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar, termed the killing of 3 foreign militants as a big success.
Kumar, according to the spokesperson said that the group of militants was on their way to Srinagar for carrying out “terror attacks”.
He said the IGP also congratulated the joint forces for their relentless work and great synergy on ground that led to elimination of 22 foreign militants during this year across the valley.
Kumar, he said, also stated that the elimination of foreign militants was top priority as they are responsible for luring the gullible youth to join “terror folds”.
Referring to the killing of policeman in Soura on Tuesday, IGP Kashmir said that the two local militants of LeT (TRF) were involved in the incident. He identified them as Adil resident of Ganderbal and a newly recruited Aquib of Chadoora Budgam.
