Srinagar- The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday arrested a Patwari for demanding and accepting a bribe for issuing revenue extracts to a man in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
According to an ACB spokesperson, the anti-graft body received a complaint from a man alleging that Bashir Ahmad Dar, Patwari, Halqa Wahabpora, Budgam was demanding a bribe of Rs 1.65 lakh from him for issuance of revenue extracts.
He said that the complainant claimed that he wanted to sell 15 marlas of land situated at Wahabpora, Budgam for which he was in need of revenue extracts.
The Patwari, as per the complainant, demanded a huge bribe from him for issuance of the documents and compelled him to pay Rs one lakh in advance and demanded Rs 65,000 more for the same, the Bureau spokesperson said.
In these circumstances, he said, the complainant approached ACB for taking legal action against the revenue official.
“As the contents of the complaint prima facie disclose commission of offence as defined under section 7 of the PC Act 1988 accordingly a case FIR No 19/2022 was registered at PS ACB Srinagar and investigations were started,” he added.
The spokesperson said that immediately after registration of the case, a team was constituted that laid a trap and caught Patwari red handed while demanding and accepting bribe from the complainant at Berwah.
“The accused Patwari has been immediately arrested on the spot. Searches were also conducted in the office and residence of the accused. Further investigations in case is going on,” he added.v
