Srinagar- Troops foiled an infiltration attempt by killing a foreign militant along the Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdhar Sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district, police said Friday.
Around 9:00am, a group of heavily armed militants attempted to infiltrate in Tangdhar Sector and subsequently were challenged by the alert troops deployed on LoC, a police spokesperson said.
However the militants, he said, opened fire on the troops which was retaliated effectively resulting in elimination of one militant on the spot. The other militant, he said, is believed to have got injured and escaped from the spot; however search is going on to trace him.
According to the spokesperson, the killed militant’s body has been recovered and the ID-card recovered from his possession identified him as Mohd Nazeer resident of Athmuqam area of Pakistan-controlled Kashmir.
“Huge cache of narcotic substances and arms/ammunition including 10 packets of Heroin, 02 AK rifles, 02 AK magazines, 02 Pistols and 04 Pistol magazines have been recovered from his possession,” he said.
“Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered FIR at Police Station Karnah and further investigation is in progress,” he added.
